Janet Akers is a full-time artist living in the Chicago area. She began her studies at the Chicago Art Academy when her children were young. She studied Old Master techniques at the Chicago Art Institute under the tutelage of Ginny Sykes in several art masterpiece copy classes and also studied with portrait painter Richard Halstead on weekends.
She did an independent year of study at Lyme Academy in Old Lyme, CT where she was able to study under Deane Keller and Dan Ghano. Upon leaving Lyme she discovered her love of landscape and further enhanced her studies at various art workshops around the country with such well-known artists as Scott Christensen, Donald Demers, Ron Rencher, Thomas Kitts and Ron Hicks.
She loves to travel and hopes to continue to integrate her passion for painting and travel.
